Filmmaker Colin Brunton has written in
with a progress report on his upcoming follow up to legendary Canadian punk
documentary short THE LAST POGO. The original half hour film was recorded in
Toronto in 1978 at the Horseshoe Tavern. It captured what was billed as the last
punk show in Toronto, featuring first wave Canuck punk bands such as Teenage
Head, the Viletones, the Ugly, the Cardboard Brains, the Secrets, the Scenics
and the Mods. The new film, dubbed The Last Pogo Jumps Again, Chacha Cha Cha!
plans to track down everyone involved in the original show. Brunton commented:
“We've just finished our first year of shooting. We've got about 75 hours of
material, and we're going to shoot for one more year before releasing the
massive documentary in December, 2008.
The hugely ambitious goal is to track down, tag and bag all 500 people that were
there than night: the bands, the brawlers (it ended in a riot), the police, the
fire department, and various hangers-on. And we're talking to people who played
a lot in Toronto back in the day (hopefully, soon, a chat with Cheetah Chrome).
There's about five directors involved, and we're shooting it -- so far -- on a
nifty little Panasonic DVC camera, but we're open to other directors and other
formats.
Right now we're looking for potential directors/camera operators in New York
City and Philadelphia and Los Angeles and some town in Italy and Vancouver --
there's people in them there cities we need to talk to. There's no money of
course, and your reward shall be in Heaven, but it's kinda fun and kinda
interesting, and hey -- if you ever wanted to get started as a director, y'know,
here's your chance. Big deal, but you'd get a credit as a director, and you can
point your Mom and Dad to the IMDB and see your credit, and...y'know...stuff
like that.”
Further progress reports on the film and contact info can be found –

TOO TOUGH TO DIE - A TRIBUTE TO JOHNNY RAMONE, the documentary produced and
directed by Mandy Stein, consists of 2 highly exciting yet emotional parts. The
1st captures highlights of THE RAMONES 3OTH ANNIVERSARY CONCERT, which took
place at the Palace in LA on Sept 12, 2004. The event was meticulously produced
by career spanning Ramones creative director Arturo Vega and Joe Sib, and
included Tommy, Marky & CJ Ramone; as well as performances from Red Hot Chili
Peppers, Dickies, X, Eddie Vedder, Steve Jones, Rob Zombie, Daniel Rey, Henry
Rollins, Pete Yorn, Tim Armstrong, and Dicky Barrette. In addition, there are
commentaries from Lisa Marie Presley, Sonic Youth & Seymour Stein, as well as
many of the musicians.
Ironically, the event took place just 3 days prior to Johnny's passing, and thus
the 2nd part of the film covers the bittersweet tribute ceremony unveiling the
Johnny Ramone monument at Hollywood Forever, also the resting place of DeeDee
Ramone. The beautiful bronze statue captures Johnny, larger than life, clad in
his signature Ramones outfit and playing guitar. Sculptor Wayne Toth applied
incredible detail to the work, giving it life like results. It premiers
September 15 on Starz, but why wait?
Then there's the recently discovered 1982 performance of THE RAMONES at the 'Us'
Festival. The event took place in Southern California and was an exciting 3 day
extravaganza with many of the top bands from the time. The performance was
professionally captured via a 4 camera shoot and recorded onto 24 tracks.
Honorary Ramones producer Ed Stasium has mixed the sound for the film. The
footage is amazing. The average temperature was 110, it was midday, and bets
were being taken as to whether they would wear their leather jackets...come and
find out.
In addition, Arturo Vega will be presenting an amazing display of band
memorabilia from his personal collection, as well as from those close to the
band. Longstanding tour manager, Monte Melnick will also be on hand autographing
his book 'On The Road With The Ramones'.
As always, the proceedings will be hosted by Linda Ramone; and both Marky Ramone
& Henry Rollins will be on hand to introduce the evening.

RAMONES have hit out at the same footwear advert Nirvana objected to, that uses
dead rock stars to promote boots.
Joey Ramone features in the advert for Dr Martens along with Kurt Cobain, Joe
Strummer and Sid Vicious, wearing the boots in heaven.
As previously reported Courtney Love hit out at the use of her late husband in
the campaign, and now Ramone's brother has followed suit.
"Obviously, we are in the same position as Courtney Love, as well as the Estates
of the others depicted [in the ad]," said Mickey Leigh. "We were never consulted
about this ad. We were never asked for permission to use Joey's image, or paid
for the use of it. As executor of my brother's estate I never would have
approved this ad as Joey never wore these shoes. And, not that my brother was
terribly religious, but the fact that he was Jewish, and this ad is not exactly
Kosher, makes it that much more inappropriate, inconsiderate and contemptible."
The footwear manufacturer has sacked the advertising agency behind the advert,
Saatchi & Saatchi, stating: "Dr Martens is very sorry for any offence that has
been caused by the publication of images showing dead rock icons wearing Dr
Martens boots. Dr Martens did not commission the work as it runs counter to our
current marketing activities based on FREEDM, which is dedicated to nurturing
grass roots creativity and supporting emerging talent."
However the agency have hit back, telling MediaGuardian.co.uk that they believed
the campaign was in good taste.
"We believe the ads are edgy but not offensive," said Kate Stanners, Saatchi &
Saatchi's executive creative director. "There has been blog commentary both for
and against the ads, but it is our belief that they are respectful of both the
musicians and the Dr Martens brand."
She added that the ads had only been created for a print campaign in the UK and
they were now "considering the ongoing employment of the individual who was in
breach of instructions not to distribute the ads further than the original
approved placement in Fact Magazine".

Famous U.K. based footware maker Dr. Martens has fired the ad agency responsible
for the recently unveiled print / poster campaign featuring deceased punks Kurt
Cobain, SID VICIOUS, JOEY RAMONE + JOE STRUMMER. The posters, created by Saatchi
& Saatchi London, depicted the iconic personalities as angels wearing the famous
boots. A statement David Suddens, CEO of Airwair Ltd, reads: “Dr Martens is very
sorry for any offense that has been caused by the publication of images showing
dead rock icons wearing Dr Martens boots. Dr Martens did not commission the work
as it runs counter to our current marketing activities based on FREEDM, which is
dedicated to nurturing grass roots creativity and supporting emerging talent. As
a consequence, Dr Martens has terminated its relationship with the responsible
agency. “

Verarschung pur! Trotzdem SOCIAL DISTORTION seit ueber 25 Jahren existiert, hat
Mike Ness es anscheinend nicht noetig ein anstaendiges „Greatest Hits“-Album
seinen Fans vorzusetzen. Denn was da Ende Juni auf „Time Bomb Recordings“
rauskommt ist nur als eine reine Unverschaemtheit zu verstehen! Nur neun Songs,
plus einen neuen Song. Das dem Mike das nicht selbst peinlich ist! Da kaufe ich
mir doch lieber noch drei Kopien vom CLASH-Album „From Here To Eternity“, als
mir solch einen RIP-OFF BULLSHIT zu zulegen!!!

“It's Jay (formerly of the BLACK HALOS). I'm just dropping you guys a line to
let you know that I just finished recording a full length with CC VOLTAGE. CC
was the bass player for the SPITFIRES out of Vancouver here. I once played
guitar for them (The Spitfires) between the first and second incarnation of the
Halos. Anyways, CC has done a full length and it's just nearing completion right
now. I play some guitar, CC plays some bass and guitar and Marty Peters (from
the Spitfires) plays the drums. The record should be out hopefully by the fall.
I keep you posted”.
