And, THE BEST OF FRIED EGG RECORDS (BRISTOL 1979-1980) – OUT ON CD 1/2/2010
Would you like to meet Little Iggy? It's a question, had you been a moderately
attractive person of the groupie persuasion, you may have heard backstage at a
Stooges show in the early-'70s, as IGGY POP sought to engage you and his "old
chap" in a nefarious act.
No more nefarious, arguably, than the latest in Ig's series of notorious
Swiftcover advertisements. And while it pains us to offer the helium of
publicity to an insurance company, we knew you'd want to be privy to the outrage
(pictured).
From the people who brought you Spitting Image's army of latex grotesques, Pop's
puerile puppet is to star alongside the, er, genuine article in a $30m rollout
of new ads in 2010.
While Iggy's share of that cannot be inconsiderable, the scrawny orange
simulacrum certainly does him no favours. Another admirable display of King
Punk's self-deprecatory bonhomie, or just one more example of his Dignity
Deficit Disorder? You decide:
Iggy Pop Puppet
SWINGIN’ UTTERS are in the process of recording a
new studio album. It will be released on Fat Wreck Chords and should be out
spring or summer 2010. The last studio recordings were 7 years ago.
"Three Lefts Make A Right" ist
die erste neue Platte der Band seit 29(!) Jahren.
It looks like the CD from TV21 will be released around February/March on Cherry
Red. It will be their first album “A Thin Red Line” (from 1981) plus all of
their early singles and b-sides.
THE PIKES, a new Mod-Punkband from Berlin got their debut out on “Time For
Action” (Vinyl-Version, the first 100 copies are on coloured vinyl) and “Dirty
Faces” (CD-Version). Six Mod Revival/PowerPop-Tunes in the tradition of bands
from the early stages. Recorded on analogue equipment and produced by Smail /
The Shocks.
Music publisher Omnibus Press has released a new book covering the history of
hardcore pioneers,BLACK FLAG. The book is titled “Spray Paint The Walls: The
Story of Black Flag” and is out since November 2009.
Assembled by Stevie Chick, the book features older interviews with Henry Rollins
and Greg Ginn and a new interview with Chuck Dukowski. According to SST
Records-affiliated Joe Carducci,
The story, laid out from the band's earliest practices in 1976 to its end ten
years later, makes a far more dramatic book than the usual shelf-fillers with
their stretch to make the empty stories of various chart-toppers sound exciting
and crucial and against the odds.
Out now on DETOUR RECORDS
SPEEDBALL -“MAXIMUM SPEED”
This is a full length CD release from Southend’s finest MOD band…. Starting off
life as “Idiot”, but after a false start the band re-grouped from a four piece
down to a three piece and started playing all the local haunts. Then after a few
choice gigs, London beckoned! The band realised they had found their audience
and built up a loyal following of up and coming parka clad fans from the newly
formed Mod phenomenon that was sweeping the country… From 1979 to 1981 the band
played their hearts out to packed venues.
In this period, the band released one cult status single on local ‘No Pap’ Label
which has now become quite a collectable single. Sadly the band imploded in
1981, Rob the main song writer ended up emigrating to downunder, Dave the
drummer sadly died a few years ago from Cancer and Guy has been playing with
Pink Floyd for the last 15 years.
This brilliant and over due release features both sides of the single,
unreleased studio tracks and choice live tracks.
Comes with an eight page booklet with rare photos and sleeve notes by their ex
manager Roger Allen.
