Punk Rock Jahresrueckblick 2007 (2007 – Another Punk Rock Year In Review)
Das Jahr 2007 neigt sich dem Ende entgegen und dies sollen nun auch in dieser
Form meine letzten “weekly words” fuer dieses Jahr werden.
Aus meiner ganz persoenlichen Sicht, was ist punkrock-technisch 2007 passiert?
Dabei lege ich natuerlich keinen Wert auf Vervollstaendigung. Hier nun ein

Billy Bones, einst Saenger von THE SKULLS hat eine neue Band auf die Beine
gestellt, und zwar mit dem schlichten Namen THE BILLY BONES. Die erste Show
findet am Samstag, 13 Januar 2007 in „Alex´s Bar“ in Long Beach (CA) statt,
zusammen mit THE GEARS(!!!), die sich aufs Neue reformiert haben.

THE JAM are to reform and tour but without frontman Paul Weller! Bassist Bruce
Foxton and drummer Rick Buckler have not toured together in 25 years but will
play a 20-date tour from 2 May, beginning in Oxford. The new tour will feature a
mix of old hits and new material.
Paul Weller, who has had a successful solo career, has been invited to join the
tour but has not commented.
Foxton said: "This tour is deliberately intimate and something of a warm-up to
our own material to launch later. The plan is for us to get close to the fans,
have some fun and then follow with a larger tour in the autumn."
Buckler added: "Paul is always welcome to join us for the reunion, but until
then, we've got a tour and a new album to do!"

Das PUNKWAX enthaelt alle relevanten deutschen Punk-und
Hardcore-Veroeffentlichungen aus den Jahren 1977-1985 mit Coverabbildung,
discographischen und biographischen Angaben. Zusaetzlich gibt es exklusive
Statements/Stories von Juergen Engler (MALE), Elf (SLIME/TARGETS), DW (OHL),
Wally (TOXOPLASMA), Gerold (NIKOTEENS), Danker (RAZORS) etc. Geschmueckt wurde
das Ganze noch mit einem Haufen zeitgenoessischen Fotos und diversen Graphiken.
Definitiv was fuer's Auge. Insgesamt ca. 540 Platten auf 340 Seiten.

THE TIGHTS are currently recording the long awaited album for „Cherry Red”.
Donnerstag, 12. April
CARBON/SILICON, the Band from Mick Jones (the CLASH) and Tony James (GENERATION
X) will release their debut EP for digital download on May 21, followed by a 7"
vinyl and CD a week later (May 28). The EP mixing is from Bill Price and
features four tracks - 'The News', 'Why Do Men Fight?', 'I Loved You' and 'Ignore
Alien Orders'.
The debut Carbon/Silicon full-length album will be released in September.
The band's first 2007 show will be at the Isle Of Wight Festival on June 9.

Das Archiv der Jugendkulturen plant ein Buch mit dem Titel „30 Jahre Punk in
Deutschland“ zur Entwicklung von Punk in Deutschland seit 1977, das ganz
wesentlich Andreas Kuttner betreuen soll. Andreas ist seit Ende der 80er Jahre
als Fanzine-Autor in der Punkszene unterwegs und Historiker.

Bereits in “Spider-Man 3“ stellte die Schauspielerin Kirsten Dunst ihre
Singstimme unter Beweis. In ihrem naechsten Filmprojekt uebernimmt sie in einem
noch unbenannten Film ueber "BLONDIE"-Saengerin Deborah Harry die Hauptrolle.
Das Biopic erzaehlt von Debbies Anfaengen in den 60er-Jahren bis hin zu Blondie
in den 70ern. Debbie Harry waehlte Kirsten Dunst selbst für die Rolle aus.

Here are some more news about the benefit gig for Paul Fox of THE RUTS and
Cancer Research. For the first time in many years Paul Fox will be joined on
stage by original RUTS members Segs and Dave Ruffy and will feature guest
vocalist Henry Rollins plus other special guests like Tom Robinson, John Otway,
The Uk Subs, Splodgenessabounds With Guest Guitar By Wurzel (Motorhead), Johnny
Turnbull Of The Blockheads, Ed Tudor Pole, The Price and Tony Barber (Buzzcocks).
The special event will take place on Monday 16th July at the Carling Academy in
Islington London. Support cmoes from Zion Train. Tickets are £10. Get yours
fast, as people are already planning to travel far and wide.
Henry Rollins about the Ruts: “The Ruts are one of my favorite bands of all
time, period. On their album, The Crack and the singles, there's not one song
that I don't like. They were easily one of the top shelf bands from the entire
British Punk scene and there were a lot of good bands in that scene. In the
music scene where I come from, Washington DC, The Ruts were and still are a very
big deal. Ask people like Ian MacKaye and others from those days about The Ruts
and you'll see what I am talking about. That the band's potential was cut short
by such tragic circumstances still gets to me. Their next album would have been
a knockout. I am still listening to their music, which with time, has not lost
any relevance but perhaps picked up some. I am glad to be part of this event if
for nothing else, just to say thanks.”

The biographical movie about Darby Crash and THE GERMS “What We Do Is Secret” is
complete. It starts with Darby (played of Shane West) creating the concept of
The Germs in 1975 and ends with his death in 1980. The film shows also the birth
of punk rock in Hollywood and the rise of Hardcore. It will make it´s world
premiere at the Los Angeles Film Festival on Sat. June 23 “Mann Festival
Theatre”.

MICHAEL BEAL died on Tuesday 12the June at 3.50AM. He was a great cover designer
and photograph. He had front covers on the early “Sniffin´ Glue”-Fanzine and
worked with bands like Eddie And The Hot Rods, John Cale, The Only Ones, Johnny
Thunders, Sham 69, The Wanderers and many more.

THE SEX PISTOLS are to release a special 30th anniversary edition of their
classic debut album “Never Mind The Bollocks...Here's The Sex Pistols”.
The album will be re-issued in the U.K. on October 29 2007 in heavy weight vinyl
with a 7" insert of “Submission” and a poster.
The format is how the record was originally released on October 28, 1977.
“Submission” was missed off the original tracklisting when the album was
mistakenly released a week earlier than planned. Due to the band's insistence,
the first 50,000 copies of the album included a one-sided 7".
The band are also set to re-release their four classic singles: “Anarchy In The
UK”, “God Save The Queen”, “Pretty Vacant” and “Holidays In The Sun”.
The tracks will be released throughout October on seven-inch vinyl in
reporductions of their iconic single sleeves.
According to the band's label Virgin, The vinyl re-issue of the album will "re-create
all the original artwork from the first editions' front and back. It will be
housed in heavyweight paper sleeves.
The limited edition reissues will take place throughout October.
“Anarchy In The UK” will be released on October 1, “God Save The Queen” on
October 8, “Pretty Vacant” on October 15 and “Holidays In The Sun” on October
29.

John Stabb's wife Mika has posted an update on the GOVERMENT ISSUE frontman's
facial reconstruction surgery. She commented:
“The surgery itself took about 4 hours, though we were there all day. It was
great to get that time to let each step of the process sink in. I would've
wanted to watch the operation, but I didn't press the idea after I first brought
it up last fri. w/ Dr. S. (I love that kind of stuff & also didn't relish
leaving john's side. This is the first crisis of our still-nascent marriage, you
know! ~an emotional journey, indeed. I must say, I think we're both handling it
w/ panache, don'tcha think? ;) ). John is now the proud owner of some 5 or 6
titanium metal plates shoring up his "zygomatic tripod" bones (around the eye
orbit) and his upper jaw, both of which had been sliding around; a screw (I
think) under his right eye; a wide, leathery splint over his nose,
SilenceOfTheLambs-style; and temporary braces readjusting his teeth. The jaw
alignment came out "better than expected": so far, they have opted against
wiring his jaw shut, although we will reevaluate later this week. He will need
to wear clueless-old-guy huge bugeye sunglasses to protect the incision along
his right eyebrow, destined to leave a wicked-cool war wound. All in all, a
kickass operation.”
John Stabb was attacked by a group of five men just a block away from his home
on July 17th. To help deal with the mounting medical bills and lost wages,

The CD “I Wanna Punk Rock'” - The Step Forward Singles Collection” features the
first ten singles from this 77 London Punk Label in chronological order with an
exclusive issue of Sniffin’ Glue fanzine and original artwork is out now in the
U.K. on “Castle Music”. “Step Foward” was fronted by Sniffin’ Glue editor and
front man to the Punk rock band ATV, Mark Perry. He was responsible for the
early singles by THE FALL, THE CORTINAS, CHELSEA, SHAM 69 and THE MODELS which
featured the Banshees and Adam & The Ants guitarist Marco Pieroni on guitar.
“Man Of The Year”, the b-side from the Models single “Freeze” was one of the
All-Time Faves from JOHN PEEL.

TOWERS OF LONDON have parted ways with their lead guitarist The Rev and drummer
Snell. The split is entirely amicable, Donny, Dirk and Tommy will continue as
Towers of London whilst The Rev and Snell have decided their ambitions lie in a
different place to the rest of the band's. The Towers of London tour will go
ahead as planned. The Towers have temporarily drafted in their friend on Lead
Guitar and Mark Heaney on Drums. The band will also continuing writing and
working on their second album.

erscheinen.

THE SEX PISTOLS come together again to play five sold out shows at the Brixton
“Academy” in November, one special show in Manchester, also sold out, at the
“Men Arena” and one in Glasgow! They are starting this little reunion one in
Hollywood at the “Roxy” in October.

THE SEX PISTOLS played their first show in four years at the “Roxy” on Los
Angeles' Sunset Strip on Thursday night (25. October).
John Lydon, Steve Jones, Glen Matlock and Paul Cook gave a hour-long performance
for a packed house.
"Hello LA!", boomed Lydon as he took the stage. "You've got the fucking floods,
fires and earthquakes and now the Sex Pistols. You ain't doing too bad at all!"
At one point a woman jumped onstage to hug and kiss Jones, after which Lydon
said: "Could the ugly birds stop getting up on stage, it's fucking embarrassing."
A scowling Lydon couldn't help smiling throughout the night, soaking in the
adoration of the capacity crowd. Things turned confrontational when an audience
member drenched him in beer, to which he responded: "I don't tolerate fucking
cowards."
The band concluded the night with a climactic encore of 'Anarchy In The UK',
which ended with Lydon repeating the phrase "fuck them all."
The private show was the Sex Pistols' only scheduled US date. It was sponsored
by LA radio station Indie 103.1, which gave away tickets to a handful of fans to
fill the 200-capacity venue.
Tickets were reportedly being sold on the internet for as much as $500.

Shithead. Das Taschenbuch „Ich, Shithead - Mein Leben als Punk“ wird von einem
Vorwort von Jack Rabid (Herausgeber des Fanzines „The Big Takeover“) angeführt.
Danach folgt die gesamte Bandhistorie von D.O.A.!

Morgen am Freitag spielen ADOLESCENTS ihr
einziges Konzert in Deutschland! Und das hier direkt in unmittelbarer Naehe,
eine knappe Stunde Autofahrt entfernt, im Koelner „Underground“. Wirklich sehr
gut zu erreichen, man faehrt von mir aus quasi nur Autobahn, irgendwann die
Abfahrt Ehrenfeld nehmen, ein paar Minuten noch geradeaus, dann rechts am
McDonalds abbiegen und schon kann man sich einen Parkplatz suchen. Nur, es
spricht so vieles dagegen! Als erstes, ganz klar, der absolut unverschaemte
Eintrittspreis von 14,00 EUR im VVK. In dem Zusammenhang faellt mir ein, das ich
vor wenigen Tagen noch in eine ´92er „Vicious Times Radioshow“ reingelauscht
habe. Zur kurzen Erklaerung: Am „Offenen Kanal Duisburg“ machte ich 33 Wochen
lang jeden Donnerstagabend von halb acht bis halb neun, diese Radioshow, die ich
dann auch jedes Mal auf Band mitschnitt. Nun, und in einer dieser Shows gruesste
ich meinen noch damaligen Bandkumpel Bernie Blitz und sprach ihm mein
„Herzliches Beileid!“ aus, fuer den Kauf einer Karte fuer ein Konzert der
RAMONES in Duesseldorf. 38,00 DM kostete der Spass, die ich schon damals niemals
bezahlt haette.
Okay, die Zeiten haben sich seit der Euro-Umstellung natuerlich drastisch
geaendert. Man fuehlt sich an allen Ecken und Enden verarscht und kauft
zaehneknirschend im Supermarkt deines Vertrauens Woche fuer Woche einen 100,00
EUR teueren Einkaufswagen zusammen, wofuer man noch zu DM-Zeiten vielleicht die
Haelfte fuer ausgegeben haette. Aber, das sind natuerlich Sachen, die in den
meisten Faellen einfach notwendig sind!
Aber ein Konzert? Fuer mich dann wohl noch einer der letzten Moeglichkeiten ganz
klar „Nein“ zu sagen und ihr Abzocker koennt mich mal am Arsch! Den Rip-Off
finanziere ich euch nicht! Leider ist man (wie eigentlich ueberall sonst in der
Bevoelkerung) dazu laengst uebergegangen, solch eine Unverschaemtheit
gleichgueltig hinzunehmen und einfach tiefer in die Tasche zu greifen!
Ein schwacher Trost bleibt mir also, denn das Geruecht kursiert, das die
ADOLESCENTS im naechsten Jahr noch einmal wiederkommen werden. Ich bin mal
gespannt, vielleicht dann auch in einem weitaus besseren Laden, wie etwa der „Sonic
Ballroom“ oder das „AK 47“. Ich meine, mich wuerde schon interessieren, wie z.B.
die AVENGERS beim erstem Mal als sie hier waren, zunaechst im „Underground“
gespielt haben, und dann im darauf folgendem Jahr im „Sonic Ballroom“ spielten.
Waere nicht schlecht, wenn das evtl. auch so mit den ADOLESCENTS passiert.
Waehrend also ADOLESCENTS morgen im „Underground“ laermen und ihre Hits spielen,
werde ich fein gemuetlich auf der Couch hocken, und mir genuesslich ein
selbstgebackenes Weihnachtsplaetzchen nach dem anderen reinschieben. Und falls
ich ganz wehmuetig werden sollte (was sicherlich nicht vorkommen wird), kann ich
mich ja immer noch mit dem DVD-Livemitschnitt aus dem „House Of Blues“ troesten.
Und mal so ganz nebenbei gesagt, die ganzen unangenehmen Bier-, Qualm- und
Schweissgerueche fallen beim Anschauen gaenzlich weg, was nur von Vorteil sein
kann.
Letzte Woche Freitag erblickte ich dann uebrigens meine Fave-Weihnachtsmaenner,
die Real endlich ins Sortiment aufgenommen hatte. Die Packung mit insgesamt vier
Weihnachtsmaennern von Riegelein mit der winzig kleinen Rute und den noch
kleineren roten Zipfelmuetzen.

Ein wenig zu sehr angeschwipst sass ich
letzte Woche vorm Computer. Folglich gab es keine „weekly words“. Allerdings
hatte ich schon so einiges an Stichpunkten in die Tasten gedonnert, die ich nun,
knapp sieben Tage spaeter nachreichen moechte:
„Karin und ich haben gerade unsere Wohnung fuer die Adventszeit feierlich
geschmueckt. Wie jedes Jahr freuen wir uns darauf wie die Schneekoenige. Jeder
hat seinen Aufgabenbereich. Karin stellt Figuerchen auf, richtet den
Adventskranz her, und ich bin damit beschaeftigt einen leckeren Adventsteller zu
zaubern. Nuesse, Apfelsinen, Zimtsterne, Domina…aeh…..Dominosteine, die kultigen
Napolitains von Riegelein (scheiss auf Lindt!), Schokokuegelchen…., und die
Brigade an Weihnachtsmaennern steht auch schon. Dieses Jahr mit dabei die
Pseudos von Lindt, von Milka, von After Eight und von Kinderschokolade.
Herzstueck ist allerdings der Riegelein-Nikolaus. Aber ich vermisste diesmal in
den Verkaufsregalen von Real meine kleinen Nikolaeuse, ebenfalls von Riegelein
mit der winzig kleinen Rute und den noch kleineren roten Zipfelmuetzen. Ein
Thema zur Schokolade. Riegelein ist natuerlich nicht die allerfeinste
Schokolade, aber Lindt-Sachen sehen einfach zu edel und zu yuppiemaesig aus.
Nein, ich will mich, wie jedes Jahr, wieder an meine Zeit als kleiner Bubi
zurueck erinnern, mit all seinen guten 70ties-Outfits, von denen es
gluecklicherweise immer noch welche gibt. Und Riegelein hat da eindeutig die
Nase vorne. Von Schokokraenze und Schokoplaetzchen, oder die grossartigen
Kaubonbon-Goldmuenzen von Hitschler oder aber auch die Outfits der Schokokugeln
von der Firma Friedel, von deren Schokolade ich zwar jedes Maul eine pelzige
Zunge bekomme (das nennt man wohl Ausschlag!), aber egal, nur einmal im Jahr ist
Weihnachten.
Nach getaner Arbeit sitzen wir dann bei einer Flasche Mumm Dry beieinander und
schauen zufrieden auf unser Werk. Das an so einem festlichen Abend nicht gekocht
wird, ist Ehrensache. Unser Pizzabaecker des Vertrauens hat Karin schon eine
Bestellung sanftweich ins Ohr gefluestert. Spinat mit Sahne und Kaese
ueberbacken, Kartoffel-Gratin, Pizzabroetchen und eine Pizza Bolognese. Die Cola
liegt auch schon im Gefrierfach und die neue Colawerbung finde ich dieses Jahr
zur Weihnacht auch wieder gut gelungen. Ich eile nun mal kurz ins Wohnzimmer und
genehmige mir ein weiteres Taesschen Sekt.“
Tja, und letzten Sonntag haben wir auch direkt auch unsere Weihnachtsplaetzchen
gebacken. Schokoladen-Busserl, Orangen-Vanille-Kipferl, Muerbeteig-Plaetzchen
zum Ausstechen und Butter-Nuss-Dreiecke. Weihnachten ist schon eine feine Sache!
Weiterhin allen weihnachts-begeisterten Punkrockern und Punkettes eine schoene
Adventszeit!
